Assembly!

Room 1 had the pleasure of hosting the whole school assembly with Room 5 today.  We performed our skip counting in 2s song that we have been practising in maths.  We had such a fantastic time singing for the school and showing them all that we can count in 2s all the way to 100! Yay go us!!

Well done to Room 5 for their fantastic puppets and an extra special well done to all our speakers.  You spoke to clearly and didn't rush which was awesome, good job!

Room 1 are skip counting in 2s Super Stars!!!!!

Welcome to Term 4!

Wow is it term 4 already?!
My goodness time is flying.  Welcome back to Room 1's blog where we will be continuing to share our learning journey with you.

One thing we need to remember this term is to be sun smart as it gets warmer and one way we do this is by wearing our hats!
Term 4 is a hat term and that means we need to bring a hat everyday (or leave one in our tote trays) if we want to go and play outside in the beautiful sunshine :)

We hope you had a fantastic holiday!

Poetry Recitals!!

Room 1 went and met the other year ones for the poetry recital finals today.  Room 1's finalists were Chantal, Sadie and Kaylah.  It was so nice to watch them present their poems to all the year ones and it was great to see all the parents that came out to support them!

You did an amazing job girls, well done!

Room 1 and Miss Lister are super proud of you :D

We did it!

Room 1 got a new pirate puzzle and the boys have been working hard to try and put it together.  On day 3 they finally managed it!

Well done and great team work :D

Numbers!

Room 1 has got a new game that is helping us to learn how to read numbers as numerals and words all the way to 20/twenty!!
The first time we played it took us 7:18 and last week it took us 2:58!  Not bad for only 1 week.  Are next goal is to get under 2 minutes and then under 1...  We will keep you posted on our progress :)

Wolf! Wolf! Wolf!

This week our fairytale was 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf'.

We learnt that this book is called a fable.
A fable is a story that tells a lesson.
The lesson we learnt was that you mustn't lie or trick people because then when you do tell the truth they might not believe you.

For art this week we created our own sheep.  It's amazing what you can make with a paper plate, some paint and cotton wool balls :)

First Miss Lister made our hill and our wolf to go on the wall.

Then we stuck our legs onto our plate.
Miss Lister gave us our sheep faces and we used white paint to create its woolly head and red paint for the mouth.

Then it was time for our googly eyes to go on.

Putting glue on our plates and sticking the cotton wool balls onto them was the next job and we did such a great job sticking them nice and close together so there were no gaps.

And tada! Our sheep are complete!

Don't they look Incredible?!

Too bad they are going to be eaten...

Creating with Paint

As we have been reading the fairytale 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf', Room 1 decided that we would paint the hill that the Boy takes the sheep up everyday.

We practised using our paintbrushes to blend our paints together to create hills with lots of colour on them :)  Miss Lister thinks we did an AMAZING job and says we are all SUPERSTARS :)

Loot at them now!

Wow look at how much our magic beanstalks have grown in the past 3 weeks!  We have loved watching them grow and cannot wait to see how tall they can get!

1 and a half weeks growing
Aren't they cute?!
3 weeks growing!

Cross Country!

On Wednesday it was the Year 1's and 2's cross country!
We have been practising everyday in anticipation of this big event.
We absolutely loved seeing all the parents that were able to come and it felt extra special to have the older students on the sideline cheering us on.

There was rain, puddles and mud and we loved every second!!

A special congratulations to Chantal who came THIRD in the Year 1 Girls cross country. Well done Chantal!

Room 1 are running Superstars!

Our support team on the sidelines

And the ones that wanted to keep their feet dry :)

GO girls!!!!!

GO boys!!!!!

Not even the rain could stop us

Well done Chantal! Room 1 is so proud of you :)

Puppets! Puppets! Puppets!

Room 1 has had a busy Wednesday!  Not only did we run the cross country (post to come) but we were also treated to a very special show by Hands Alive!

It was an amazing puppet show that did their own version of some of our favourite Fairytales and we loved helping Billy and the Princess spot the Gingerbread Mouse and the Monster.

One of the best parts was when Miss Glue came out and sang a beautiful song reminding us that when things get hard we must 'stick to it' and never give up.

Thanks for coming Hands Alive!

We loved it!!

Fe Fi Fo Fum...

'Once upon a time' Room 1 read the adventure filled fairytale 'Jack and the Beanstalk.'

We loved hearing about how Jack and his mother came to have a hen that laid golden eggs and about the Giant that lived in a castle above the clouds.

Miss Lister decided that Room 1 should plant some magic beans of their own to grow high into the sky!

First Room 1 got their pots and filled them with soil...

They then used their finger and made a hole in the soil for their magic bean...

They picked a magic bean, dropped it into the soil and covered it up to keep the seed nice and warm...

Finally they watered their seeds to help them grow...

The potted beans were then very carefully transported to the windowsill to get lots of sunlight!

We will keep you updated on how our beans grow but we already know that they are going to live...

 'happily ever after!'

Once Upon A Time...

During term 3, Room 1 will be looking at Fairytales!  Each week we will be focusing on a different fairytale for our big book.

We are looking forward to learning about lots of fairytales and will be displaying our work for you to see :)

Room 1's Sneaky Snake

We read the big book 'Baby Kangaroo and the Sneaky Snake' and used it as inspiration for our Friday art.

The artistic Mrs Shearer helped us to draw the Sneaky Snake from the book.  We each got a piece that we made patterns on using crayons and to finish it off we painted it with dye.
When it had dried we joined the pieces together in the correct order and our Sneaky Snake was complete!

Doesn't it look AMAZING?!

Bubbles Bubbles Everywhere!

At the end of last term, Room 1 had a lovely afternoon in the sun making all sorts of bubbles.

We looked at the different shapes and colours that bubbles make.  We also used different size wands to see if they made different sized bubbles.

We made BIG bubbles.  Little bubbles.  Bubbles that we circular.  Bubbles that were long and slim.  Bubbles that popped! And bubbles that floated up and away into the bright blue sky!

Afterwards we headed to the art room to capture our bubbles on paper :)

We loved making the bubbles and working together as a team to make our bubble art!
